Energetic Fellowship

We are sure that you as an effective seminar coordinator or workshop leader will like your seminar participants to get to know each other before you start your serious stuff. And if you can make their mutual introductions a fun thing, you can be sure that you have given your program a brilliant start. The game recommended here is not only a great game for the initial exchange of greetings between the participants but it also serves as an excellent icebreaker and energizer/warm-up exercise.

After the attendees/audience of your program gathers in the seminar hall, make the pairs of them consisting  of two persons picked up randomly. For random pairing, you may ask them to shout out their serial numbers from 1 onwards  and then persons with serial number 1 and 11, 2 and 12, 3 and 13 and so on can be made the partners.  Or you may follow any other method for such random grouping.

We all know that the most conventional way of getting introduced to each other is to say “hi” or “hello” to each other and then giving out your name by shaking the hands.

But warn the participants that they will have to do much more than this to get introduced to each other. So, instruct the participants that each pair will have to invent its own creative greeting to greet each other in the pair.  Each creative greeting will have  three parts to it. You may give them an example by saying that their new greeting can consist a handshake, a hip bump and a high five. Emphasize that what you just suggested was only an example. They should not copy it but try to work out a new greeting consisting of such three parts by mutual discussion between the two partners of a pair.

Now let the partners in each pair use their newly invented greeting and get to know each other. After the first round of greetings is complete, mix the participants with different partners. Each person in the new pair will show the greeting they just made up. Then the newly paired two partners will combine their greetings to make a new one, may be a longer one with more parts to it. Pair up one more time with a new person. Ask the new partners to share those long new greetings and combine the two for a super new or super long greeting.

After this energetic fellowship is complete, request all the participants to clap thunderously and bring them back to your next session of the program.
